Behavior Management
In this classroom we do not use a clip up chart. Instead we use a system that allows the students to work for class dollars, or Nattrass bucks, that they can cash in for various prizes. Some examples of popular prizes from last year were eating lunch in the classroom with a friend, having a popsicle at lunch, treasure box, bring a stuffed animal to school day, sit at the teachers desk for the week and so much more! The difference with this system is that EVERYONE has the opportunity to earn and cash in for prizes as frequently as they would like. Students can choose to save for larger, more expensive prizes, or have more instant gratification with some of the less expensive prizes. Students cannot tell who has earned the most or the least amount of money this way because there will always be money going in and out of the students' banks. This was a very successful management system last year and the kids are already very excited about it this year! Students will earn money for the outstanding choices they make and will lose money for the poor choices they make.
Discipline
I think reflection is a very important aspect of education and discipline in my classroom is no exception. When a student receives a consequence, I ask them to fill out a class reflection sheet (orange sheet) about the choices they made. The student and I will talk about the choices made, how we can strive to make better choices, and depending on the frequency/severity of the behavior, the note may find it's way home to parents at the end of the day. This is a private matter between the student and I as a means of working to better ourselves so that we can get the most out of our school day .
Communication
I am a very big proponent of communication so I promise to keep you in the loop of your child's progress, any areas of struggle, and all class happenings as best as I can! If you have something that needs my immediate attention, please send a note with your child or send me a message on the Remind app (this links directly to my phone). I check email periodically throughout the day, but depending on where the day takes us, I am not always be near my computer! I try my best to respond to emails within 24 hours during the school week, but at times it may take the full 48 Fulton County allotted response time. If you EVER feel that you would like to sit down and discuss something with me, please do not hesitate to reach out and set up a time to chat!
